The need for blood doesn’t ‘brake’ during the Clipsal 500

Keep your blood donation record on track this March by becoming a key driver in the never-ending race for blood.

The Australian Red Cross Blood Service needs over 7,000 blood donations during March to continue saving the lives of blood-dependent people such as cancer patients, road trauma victims, burns victims and unborn babies.

Donor services manager Alex Frolow said March was full of events such as the Clipsal 500, Fringe and Adelaide Cup.

“With so many exciting events, we are concerned that regular donors might forget about the need for blood donations,” he said.

“That’s why we’re reminding people that the race for blood never ends, and that one in three of us will need blood in our lifetime.

“The only way Australia gets its blood is from the generosity of donors, so we hope Adelaide residents can include a blood donation in their events calendar during March so that the Australians who depend on blood have a chance to enjoy these events with them.

“Every donation you make helps save three lives and only takes an hour of your time, so we urge you to please factor in a blood donation when making your plans for March.”

The Blood Service has six Blood Donor Centres in South Australia. The Currie Street and Pirie Street Centres will remain open throughout March and appointments can also be made at the Marion, Onkaparinga, Pelican Plaza or Port Adelaide centres.
