Brisbane Donors and City Buildings Shine in National Blood Donor Week

22/07/2013

As Brisbane City buildings are lit up in red lights, Brisbane blood donors are among the thousands of donors across Australia being recognised and thanked for their lifesaving efforts.

The honour comes as Australians celebrate National Blood Donor Week (July 14 – 21), a time to say thank you to donors and learn more about becoming a blood donor.

As part of the National Blood Donor Week celebrations, the Story Bridge, QPAC, the Treasury Casino (pictured) and Kurilpa Bridge will all be lit up in red lights for the week.

‘Battle of the Burbs’ blood challenge is ON!

26/03/2012

Is your suburb the best? Is it more generous than the others? Well the proof will be in the blood bag with the Australian Red Cross Blood Service’s latest challenge – the ‘Battle of the Burbs’.

Set to re-ignite old neighbourhood rivalries, the campaign which pits ‘burb’ against ‘burb’, is aimed at finding out which Brisbane suburb has the biggest heart.

Local residents are being asked to show their community pride and spirit by donating blood and helping win the title of the most generous Brisbane suburb.

Celebrating saving lives

22/03/2012

In less time than it takes to get a haircut, do the grocery shopping or mow the lawn you can save three lives. Brisbane resident Kate Dunn has done just that – 100 times! Kate has selflessly given up her time over the years to save the lives of 300 people by donating blood.

Sister Sarah surprised Kate with a special Billy the Blood Drop cake at her 100th donation at the Edward Street donor centre in Brisbane City recently. One in three of us will need blood in our lifetime, but right now only one in 30 Australians donate.

City suits saving lives

02/02/2012

Organisations across Brisbane will be seeing staff loosening their ties and rolling up the sleeves on their business shirts to save lives over the next month.

Battle of the Suits, a four week challenge put out by the Australian Red Cross Blood Service, encourages staff at organisations across the City to donate blood not only to support those who need blood, but also in hope of their company taking out this year’s title.
