Osteoporosis – I have had a bone density scan confirming I have osteoporosis. Can I donate?

Yes, but you can only donate either whole blood or plasma by apheresis.

Currently, we don’t know how collecting platelets by apheresis from people with osteoporosis affects their bone density. That’s why, as a precautionary measure to protect your health, you won’t be able to donate platelets by apheresis.
