Drug use (recreational) – Can I donate blood even if I have taken recreational drugs?

Maybe. It depends on the type of drug and how and when it was taken.

If you have ever injected drugs not prescribed by a registered medical practitioner, even once, you’re not eligible to donate.

The Blood Service values your privacy and we are only interested in your safety as a donor and the safety of the blood you donate. All donor interviews are conducted in private and confidentiality is maintained.

To find out if you can donate, please call 13 14 95 for a confidential discussion.
