Dr Rena Hirani

Research Fellow

Microscope QUT

Dr Rena Hirani is a Research Fellow in clinical research at the Blood Service.  She is analysing the molecular changes which occur in patients who receive a blood transfusion, including trauma patients and transfusion dependent paediatric and adult patients.

She also has a project analysing the use of genotyping techniques to match blood components more closely between patients and donors.

Dr Hirani is also analysing the clinical usage patterns for high demand blood components.  It is expected that this research will provide enhanced understanding of blood component usage and safety and improving transfusion related outcomes for patients.
