Blood Donors’ Bushfire Response
9.2.2009From across the State, and indeed around the country, the Blood Service has been inundated with calls from the public wanting to donate, to help the bushfire victims.
We sincerely thank everyone who has contacted us wanting to donate blood.
This has proven to be a challenge for our phone system, and we are urging donors, where possible, to register online.
“If you are an existing donor already scheduled to donate, you should keep your existing appointment. The Blood Service is encouraging new donors and those who have not donated for 12 months or more to register online”, said the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Red Cross Blood Service, Dr. Pip Hetzel.
“We ask for your patience as our dedicated staff continue the gradual process of contacting everyone who has pledged to donate. Blood Service staff will then assess individual eligibility and where possible schedule a convenient appointment to donate blood over the coming days and weeks. Returning your calls however, will take some time”, added Dr. Hetzel.
To make a tax deductible donation to the 2009 Victorian Bushfires Appeal please call 1800 811 700 or at www.redcross.org.au
