Claims today by APESMA suggesting a looming crisis for the SA blood supply are incorrect, inaccurate and scare-mongering.
In July this year the Blood Service computer system was on back-up. At that time, South Australia did not export blood products; it received them from Victoria, Queensland and New South Wales.
The Blood Service runs a national supply chain, and blood is routinely shared across state borders as required.
